About Us

Lansing First Presbyterian Church is open to worshippers of all ages and backgrounds. We lead our congregation in worship, deepening the connection to God, understanding the teachings of Christ, and ultimately to a vibrant faith.

We have a long, proud history of serving the people of Lansing. Through the dedication of our leadership, staff members and volunteers, we are committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ, and are here to spread His message. Sign that reads: This church, Lansing's first congregation to affiliate nationally (with the Marshall Presbytery), was founded on December 17, 1847. It was organized by the Reverend Calvin Clark, an agent for the American Home Missionary Society. There were four members. The first pastor, the Reverend W.W. Atterbury, served from 1848 until May 1854. The congregation held its early services in a school, the legislative chambers of Lansing's first capitol, an inn and a storage building called "God's Barn." It built its first permanent home, Lansing's first church edifice, in 1852.

A Brief History

Founded in December of 1847, the First Presbyterian Church has been a center for the community for nearly 200 years. Positioned a few blocks from the State Capitol, FPC Lansing is uniquely positioned to stay engaged in local and state activities.

FPC Lansing hosts several community organizations, included its own sponsored food pantry, NorthWest Initiative, the Global Institute of Lansing, and more.
